Royal Cross Beginning

I promised in my last post that I'd start working on something for myself this past weekend, and true to my word, here is some evidence that I did.

My stash-busting effort consisted of almost cutting out all the pieces for my Royal Cross quilt. I cut all 100 of the light value pie shaped pieces and triangles. Also cut are all the medium value squares, and half the medium value cross pieces. I've cut a few of the dark value pieces too.

In the foreground is one block I put together, because I just can never resist the lure of the piecing. I just love it!

Amazing how much more time consuming cutting out curved pieces can be. This lot took a few hours on Saturday, a few hours yesterday, and I'm still not done!

Today after I get busy with some chores, I need to get back to some customer quilting. When I've finished the one quilt that is half done, then I'll allow myself to get back into some cutting. Better run - those chores won't take care of themselves! x o x

This will be beautiful...not only is the cutting more time consuming...I can tell from the block the piecing will be too. My quilts tend to be from simple patterns probably because I like to finish things quickly!

Wow! What a beautiful block - I have never seen that pattern before and can only imagine how gorgeous it is going to be when you start putting more blocks together. I'm interested to see the secondary pattern which appears.

This quilt will be stunning! The curves alone would make me think twice, no more times then that about making this quilt. Please keep us posted of your progress on this beauty!

I love curves...and this is no exception. I hope you keep us well informed with your progress (lots of pics please ;o)
Are you using acrylic templates to cut them, or something else?

Your block is truly lovely!! Great piecing!! Did you hand cut each piece, or rotary cut??

Lovely!

Good for you, I can see you are not afraid to take on a challenge. The hand piecing is lovely, I love the "make do with what you have look" .

This is wonderful!!! My favorite are scrap quilts and this one is so different. Where can someone else find the pattern? Can't wait to see it done!!

You have certainly chosen a challenging block for your own project! At least you are managing to cut it out with a rotary cutter - otherwise I think just the cutting would take forever. You are piecing this by machine right? I absolutely love how it's looking (the picture of several blocks put together). I never have considered this block for a project, but seeing yours makes me really want to try a few. What a marvelous scrappy look you are getting!
