For Donna

This photo is especially for Donna. Linda and I were chatting on the phone the other day, and we were discussing my stash and some recent enhancements. Because technology is just so amazing now, I was able to take a picture of the stash closet with my phone and just send the picture on over to her - instant sharing - amazing!

So, she said I needed to share the picture with Donna too ...

(I think she's really actually teasing me - because compared to both of them, my stash is miniscule) But I'm working on it ... really I am :-)

And just so you know, bottom left are my fat quarters ... and all the rest is yardage, some as much as 5 yards. So much more fabric here than it appears ... honest!!

Still Stitching

I've been a bad blogger this past week - I'm still stitching away, but haven't had anything noteworthy (or much time) to share. Here is my progress on my Starstruck Again quilt, and I'm loving how it's coming together. I've made another four blocks (two full size, and two half size) but I haven't added the blue triangles yet. I wanted to have the top finished by now, and thankfully, I'm so close I can almost taste it :-)

Last week Marty brought a present home for us - we installed it yesterday and now we're having fun figuring out how to use it. Being me, I love the sounds it makes!

It's back to the sewing room for me now, I set myself some lofty goals today and I'll be running to achieve them ... let's see how much I get done ...

Eleven Blocks

Just a quick update on my 'Starstruck Again' blocks. I've now made 11 blocks, and six half blocks. I've cut out another group of three blocks and two half blocks, so hopefully will get them stitched together tonight after I'm done with my chores.

I find it just amazing how different it looks to my original Starstruck quilt, which featured red setting triangles.

I've done a lot of quilting this week, and while I still have a few to do, I'll probably only do two before this time next week. So, I'll have more stitching time for me - hopefully this top will be finished before next weekend. That'll make me super happy!

Revisiting an Old Favourite

This morning I had some visitors and an opportunity to revisit some of my older quilts.

Some favourite scrap quilts came out of the cupboard, and as I was getting ready to put them away later on, I paused and ran my hands over the fabrics.

I just love this quilt - the nine patches are made from scraps belonging to both myself and my wonderful friend Linda who lives in San Jose. There are memories in all those fabrics - from the quilts they first appeared in, and all the quilts that followed.

This quilt is based on one of Bonnie's leader and ender projects - the Zig Zag Nine Patch. Aren't we all so very lucky to have Bonnie in our lives - she is just so generous with her free patterns.

A little repair

Tiny men can be very curious, and sometimes they try something just to see what the result will be. Imagine my suprise when I found this little corner on Camo's Rocket Quilt. How could I be mad? I knew he wasn't being malicious, and he was sad that his quilt had an 'ouch'.

First step was to remove the offending area of binding - I had a tiny 5" x 2" piece of the green fabric in my scrap box, so I trimmed and joined. Next I satin-stitched the tear together. I wish I had a better matching thread, but it sure looks better than a hole. Re-applied the binding and hey presto, the quilt will live to survive many more launderings.

During the week I had to dash into a local fabric store. The two fabrics in the picture had to come home with me. The green fabric is for a project that will stay super secret for a while. It's going to be a surpise. And the purple I thought I'd audition with my green 'leader and ender' nine patches. I don't think it'll work, but it looks nice in my stash closet for now, and can wait for a perfect project.

Family

I have been utterly bogged down with work of late, so I don't really have anything quilty to share. But, I thought I'd show you this picture I took on Mother's Day. It's my little brother with Miss Amy. I think it's my new favourite photo.

Have a great week, and I promise I'll have something nice to share by the weekend. x o x

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful Mums out there. I've had a lovely start to the day with some sweet treats from my tiny people. My family are coming over for dinner this evening, so we're sure to have a great time.

Yesterday I finished the quilting and applied the binding to these spiderweb blocks I showed you a little while back. They're destined to be part of our gift to my Mum. The colours will work so well in her home.

I had a lot of fun quilting the blocks, and I used the loveliest gold thread. The quilting shows beautifully from the back.

Baby Steps

I've had precious little sewing time lately, so my progress on this quilt has been 'baby steps'. Here's where I'm up to. I still have many more blocks to make, most of the half blocks are yet to be made, and lots of blue triangles yet to be cut.

It's fun to be working on this project again in its new form. Is it starting to look familiar yet?

Starstruck Again

Don't you just love a fresh pile of fabric ready for the cutting? And a blurry picture, well that just adds to the intrigue!

I'm getting busy sewing the blocks together for a revamp of an older project. Are any of the pieces looking familiar so far?

Green Nine Patches Finished

I've finished stitching enough green nine patches I think. I have made 81 now, and that's a nice neat number (when you think in terms of setting them on point, 9 x 9).

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions regarding the setting squares. I'm really no closer to a definite decision - I'm leaning heavily toward a pink or purple, but when I'm on a fabric hunt, if a different and perfect fabric calls to me, I'll be open to it.

I'll have to concentrate on some different things for a little while. I've brought some yummy fabrics home from the shop to make up a new version of my 'Starstruck in Paducah' quilt. The original is living happily over with Linda, and I love the pattern, so why not make another. I hope to start tomorrow, so I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Be sure to have a wonderful weekend. x o x
