Piecer's Mat Finished

This afternoon I finsished the binding on the piecer's mat. Marty kindly took Cameron to the birthday party so I could have some time to myself.

Dawn recently made a sewing machine mat, and my friend Karen purchased a mat a lot like it, but was using it for hand piecing. I was thinking it'd be neat to have one with some flannel fabric in the middle so that if you were hand piecing, it would be like a mini-design wall. You'd also be able to pin your pieces to the flannel area. I can see more of these mats in my future.

I have a small table runner project I'd like to work on for the rest of this afternoon, and then I really MUST get back to doing my real work. I think I'm some kind of ADD quilter - I'm really easily distracted!

Wow, Tazzie - I love that mat! It'll be great for hand piecing. Great idea.

I have a birthday next month - hint,hint. LOL

That's why I have heaps of things on the go at once - I get bored and then can switch between them.

Great idea for the mat. Are those pockets hanging over the edge?? Very nice!!

Looks excellent - did you sew any of that non-slip rubberised stuff to the back?

That looks like a great little project. When I have lots of big projects going I find I periodically need to jsut take a small one and finish it just to see what it feels like to have something called "done."

The non-slip idea is great...

What a clever mat for hand piecing. Maybe one can add tie strings too, so one can roll and tie so the project don't shift while carrying it around ? You see, I often carry my projects around ;-)

I love your little mat. Have you designed this one for machine piecing? It looks like you plan to put your machine on the brown square and have your scissors, etc in the pockets out front. What fabric is the brown section? Something special, or cotton. I think we all have Quilters' ADD--the product of this syndrom is UFOs! I have many!

Cool mat. Very clever. I can see how you could use it both for machine and hand piecing.
It's always more fun to create some new idea than finish some duty that is pressing. I'm sure you will get everything done in the end.

This is a great mat Tazzie! What a great idea for a design wall for small projects. And you could use it under your sewing machine for when you were machine sewing.
I think the idea of doing small projects in between the big ones is a great idea. I don't think it shows distraction, it shows foresight!

Me too, me too, LOL, I love that mat!!! Can you, will you tell us more about it??? Are those pockets that are hanging over the edge of the table? What size did you make yours? How large are the squares cut? How large is the flannel piece in the middle.......does this car have automatic steering?? ROF gales of laughter!!

Ok Tazzie, so you can see by the response to this post that you are going to have to draft a pattern and make it available for us that hand piece and hand applique. I would purchase one. In fact...place my order ;0) Bren

What a cool idea! Something like that would be great to take along to a class where space is limited. Thanks for sharing!
