Powering on!

And here it is - the 'Back Home Again' top is complete! I knew that once I finished putting the rows together that the rest of it would go together quickly.

Last night at around 12.30 I finished with the rows, and this morning as soon as I'd had breakfast, I set about cutting up and stitching on the final borders.

There are a couple of changes I made from the directions of the original quilt. Firstly, the cutting info called for you to cut the corner and setting triangles in such a way that you have bias edges all along where you attach the borders. I changed it so the edges are on the straight grain.

Secondly, though you can't see it well in the picture, I mitred the corners of the inner and outer border - this wasn't done in the original quilt, and for me, I just like the mitred finish better, especially when using a border stripe like the small inner border.

This will be as far as I get with the top for a while - there will be no quilting just yet. I've already delivered the quilt to the store, so it can be there on display as soon as they open after the Christmas/New Year break. It feels just wonderful to have a project crossed off the to-do list.

Wow! Finished, you seem to have done it in super quick time. Especially considering all the piecing you had to do.

These quilts are fantabulous!! They are not popular in Russia like they used to be about 200 years ago, but I am sure, some day I will start sewing them, too! I am very impressed!
And it is a very womanly craft, i think, where you can show your creativity and good taste! Bravo!!

This is a really lovely quilt, Tazzie, How big a quilt is it finished?
I love the designs and the variations of the stars. Sometimes when you get lots of patterned fabrics together the design gets lost but this one really works together beautifully. I look forward to seeing the finished project.
Regards,
Anna

Normally I don't like really busy backgrounds but this is pretty. Good for you for getting the top completed.

You've done a wonderful job on that, and the fabric is gorgeous. It's a lot of work just prior to Christmas though.

Your doctor must know you quite well to suspect that you haven't been resting enough; do you ever slow down?

Hope all your Christmas preparations go smoothly, and you and your family have a lovely time.

What a spectacular quilt! The fabric is beyond gorgeous. I can't remember who you said designed this, but the blocks make me think of a Lori Smith sampler. So many of those in Heirloom stithes had lots of pieces just like yours. I couldn't believe some of the 6" blocks with 30 to 40 pieces, and a couple of the 12" blocks had 70-80 if I remember correctly! This looks like it was so much fun to put together. I suppose if I were to order this as a BOM I'd need to do it from an Australian shop. I just have too many HSY's already LOL!
