Nine Patches

Here is my former 'leaders and enders' project. My other project kind of bossed its way to the front of the queue.

I have so far made 52 of the green/cream nine patches. I'm a little stumped for a moment, and here I am thinking I'll throw a question to the masses.

I'd like to set the nine patches on point with setting squares, but I don't know what colour I'd like the setting squares to be. Ideas anyone? I was sort of thinking cheddar, but I'm just not certain. Please inspire me :-)

How about purple; the grayish purple like in Civil War fabrics. I think green and purple go well together.

I'm not sure about chedder - is that too green and gold? I have to vote for a shade of purple as well - great minds think alike!

Cheers!

Love the nine-patches. Will be a stunning quilt...

Your nine patches look yummy! I was thinking maybe a soft peach or apricot type color. Not really orange or yellow, just a soft in between color. :o)

Beautiful colours!

Just to be different... RED would look great, and would give you a bonus Christmas quilt :)

I don't have a suggestion about the setting squares but...I realize what a small world it is when I recognise fabrics in your nine patches that I have in my stash and my quilts. I am from a small town about an hour from Toronto Canada.

Who suggested apricot? That sounds good.

I really like the idea of purple!

Purple popped to my mind first as well. Not bright, but soft. Nice patches. Did you strip-piece?

May I suggest a warm red for a Christmas theme; warm gold for a fall theme; or perhaps cinnamon for just a warm theme. I think cheddar might have too much white it in. Have an audition and see who wins.

Fuchsia comes to mind but maybe chedder is better.

I would use the purple too. Like the one you used in your the Purple stars quilt. With that grey tone. It would be so great!
Maybe a square within a square block, and add some black? So many lovely things to do with this!
Good luck:o)

Hello-Hello! I vote for pink (not repro) as you have a lot of vibrant greens - isn't pink on the other side of the color wheel? I like your past project too-really need to make that! Nice to your teaching pictures

I love cheddar or gold. It would have to be the right fabric. Good luck!

When I first saw them I thought nice deep reds would be beautiful but I have to say I'm really swayed by the commenter who suggested purple-that would be gorgeous too!

Red would make a gorgeous Christmas quilt! If that doesn't appeal to you then I would go with purple. ; )

On the Ives color wheel, magenta is the complementary color to green. I see magenta as a mixture of pink and violet.

I vote for just a two color quilt, green and cream... then name it "ForestGreens for ForestJane" and send it to meeee. :D

I'll be in the minority and suggest browns or tans, make a nature-themed quilt.

I have loved your green/cream nine-patches since you started making them. I see them with a burgandy, it would give it a fall almost to Christmas feel and that colour combo is always so warm.

But I'm certain that whatever you decide it will be gorgeous. You have such a way with fabrics!

I love the way you said "bossed it's way to the front of the queue" it is true, isn't it. These projects do take on a life of their own!

I love your green 9 patches. I vote for red setting pieces because that is my favorite combo. A brick red would look great and not too Christmasy. Aside from my fav combo, I like your idea of cheddar too!

I'm with AnnieO - brick red. Then you could do a red stripey skinny border and a red/green Christmasy outer border...

If you hate that idea, then my second thought would be purple. You seem to like that combo...like the yarn skein on the right!

Ohhhh, how about an antique rose? I see some of that color in a few of your fabrics so it would compliment nicely... Sometimes it can be sooo hard to settle on just one fabric color - so many different colors go together...
Cheers! Evelyn

Can you take five/six of the blocks to your local fabric shop, and audition different complimentary fabrics?

Thn send the finished quilt to me, because (athough I have 3000-yards of fabric in the cupboard) I don't have a decent quilt.

God bless, Christine in Los Angeles
