Mixed feelings

I have just had my feelings stung, and I don't really know how to deal with it. I just discovered one of my 'pay-it-forward' items listed on ebay.

I guess it's the individuals item after it leaves my hands, and therefore they can do what they like with it. However the thing that bothers me most is that it's really not in the spirit of the whole pay it forward concept - maybe if they didn't like it, they could have paid it forward to someone else.

Disappointing, and actually - it kind of hurts.

AAWWWW. I'm sorry. Don't feel bad.

Oooh -- I think I'd react just like you have if that happened to me! I would be hurt as well.

However, given the financial mess right now, I would wonder if the person was perhaps caught in this horrible credit crunch that seems to have so many people scrambling and was trying to raise money any way they could. We never really know what's happening in other's lives sometimes.

I hate to say it but several people are really hurting for money at moment and needing to give up lots of items to make ends meet. I'm guessing it is more in the lines of that than anything else. Just be thankful you are able to have helped.

Is it the runner that uses the Lazy Crazy applique blocks? When I saw that auction, I automatically thought of a runner that you made for a blog giveaway (that my friend Linda Z. won).

So sorry that you're going through this pain... I'd feel the same way, if I were you.

that is so sad, if she didn't like it she should have given it as a gift.
I would be very upset too.

I would imagine that since we all cherish the work of other quilters, especially that which is given as a gift, the recipient must have had a very good reason for listing it on ebay. I'll say a prayer for her...

Ouch. Not a nice feeling at all. Such a shame.

I know that I would react in the same way. Try not to take it personally! And try not to let it sour your view of the whole thing. You are so great & there are so many of us that appreciate your work & the time you put into everything you do. I usually just lurk but thought that I would show my support & drop a note.

Oh I am so sorry. That would hurt my feelings too.
I wish I had signed up for your pay it forward. I wouldn't put it on ebay.

sorry to hear that Tazzie, but I have been shocked by some of the quilts that are being listed on ebay.com at the moment, family heirlooms, I guess times are tough..
I could never sell a gift, whether it be made or bought, I get guilty!

((HUGGERS))

Oh Tazzie ,
what mixed feelings you must have seeing that on ebay.Yep times are tough for many BUT I have and will never sell or give away anything made for me-even if it's not my cup of teeeea %100 it was a gift for me
cheers Vickie

Aww, how bad (I'd even say mean !). I fully understand your feelings, dear Tazzie, and I'm so sorry for you. The time we spend on a gift, not only putting fabric and thread together, but also our heart... and then seeing it for sale on Ebay ! If the person didn't like it (which quite amazes me, with your talent), well she could at least have kept it as a token of friendship, instead of trying to make money with it !!!

I'm truly disapointed, whoever did that...

A BIG friendly (((HUG))) to you, dear !

XOXOXOXOXXO

Others have suggested that she may have needed the money, but in my mind that is not an excuse for poor manners.

Perhaps if she was in dire straights for money she should have turned off her internet connection before selling a piece made by hand and given from the heart.

Tazzie...if you send the ebay link to me I will place a bid on your work. I only hope that I could be so lucky to be the winning bid! I'd be honored to display it in my home. I'm sorry this happened to you.

christine

Goodness. Its suppposed to be about the giving, the creating behind what you give. I'm so bummed for you. I'd be hurt, too.

How naughty! I wanted to sign up for your pay it forward, but missed out. I would love to have a Tazzie creation!!! You are one if the most talented quilters that I have met through blogging! You have every right to feel bad.

julia said...

Hi Tazzie,
oh, that sounds really bad.
Perhaps I'm the wrong person to judge, but I could never sell an item specially made for me - even if it wasn't absolutely my taste...or even if I needed money... {as I said, I don't know how it is to sell my possessions because I needed the money - but I wouldn't even come up with that idea...more likely I'd sell my computer or tv...}.
Please, don't let this make you feel bad...big hugs from over the pond,
Julia

Oh Tazzie, I know your feelings are terribly hurt and mine would be also. I don't have any wonderful words of wisdom but we can only hope that the recepient had a good reason for doing what she did. ((HUGS))

How horrible...

But, not unlike if you give a quilt to someone who doesn't appreciate homemade (You didn't spend money so they don't like it) or someone who puts it on the floor for the dog to tear up & have babies on - once it is gone it is gone, but I don' think it should be gone like that...

Terry said...

I'm so sorry you were hurt like this. I could never sell anything handmade for me by someone else. I know the time and talent it takes. But like some other commenters have said, perhaps this person needed the money and didn't have a choice. I'm still sorry your feelings were hurt. :0(

You should give us the link so we can get it and appreciate it!

That is soooooo rude. I understand you being disapointed. I would have been that to if I discovered something like that.

I can imagine your feelings are hurt, especially the way you found out. You have every right to feel bad as this isn’t the intention of a swap system like Pay it Forward. I hope this doesn’t put you off entering a future swap.
It would have been nice if the person had informed you of her intentions.

I feel so awful that this happened to you. I would be hurt too. Hugs.

I know that your feelings are hurt as mine would be too. It is hard to understand and accept the actions of others sometimes. Big hugs from all of us.

Oh that is not a nice feeling... I just really hope her reasons were beyound her control and I wished if it was that she was not in that situation.

Nanette Merrill said...

That is actually horrible. Really horrible. You go into things with the best intentions. And think others do to. Quite disillusioning.

Anonymous said...

The whole idea was to pay it forward not pay oneself. If the person is finding it hard to make ends meet then why join up, because they obviously do not have the money to make 3 gifts to PAY IT FORWARD. So I don't think that is an excuse at all. I would think that this person has joined up for their own selfish reasons and that is to make money from others. There are the opportunist in every community, I certainly would not do any exchanges or other things with this person. Not very Christian of them.

We never quite know the circumstances. Maybe it was stolen & placed on e-bay. Just know that it will hopefully go to a loving home that will appreciate your work. I like your blog (I don't have one)!!!
One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch does it?
Please don't let one bad apple spoil your perception of the rest of us. Have a beautiful day & remember all the other blessings you have!!!!

Wow, I"m totally shocked. I"m so sad to hear that. Just catching up with all your current stuff. This wasn't fun to see.

That really disturbs me. Pretty sad that someone would do that, because like most of us, you pour your heart and soul in your work. I am sorry that this has happened to you.

sewkalico said...

Shocking!!!! It's a pity that someone had to do this! You don't deserve it!!

I dont mind if some had to sell for money, but I do mind that they also have no manners to tell the person who made the item. That makes them really poor, regardless of how much money they have.
