A fun find ...

So, I've been piecing and working on hexagons lately ... the same stuff I seem to have been working on forever! I promise when I have something noteworthy to share, I really will share it!

And because I seem to have a very short attention span, I've done things in-between like: Clean out the Tupperware cupboard (OMG!), rearrange my thread rack into colours (LOL), and a little bit more noteworthy, dumped a whole pile of old pictures out of the iPhone. Which brings me to my pictures ...

Quite a while ago, I was watching "You've Got Mail" on the TV, and at the point in the movie when Kathleen is home sick. When the doorbell rings, she gets out of bed, and OMG! Quilt sighting!!

How cute! Looks vintage! Must make!

I was pausing the TV all over the place and trying to take pictures - probably confused the Tivo terribly, but I got my (blurry) close-up too. I'm still in love with this quilt, and it's somewhere on my ever-growing 'must make' list.

Isn't it fun to have quilt sightings on the TV and in the movies? I have a feeling there was a really neat applique quilt in 'When Harry met Sally' too. Do you watch for quilt sightings? Do you have a favourite? :-)

Oh yes, I do that all the time. It really drives me crazy to see a machine quilted piece in a period picture. Keep your eyes out for that "No NO"...

I find them in movies as well - I wonder if much thought goes into selecting the quilt for the movie?

I always enjoy a quilt sighting on TV or DVDs. Recently I was watching DVDs of the early series of Bergerac and spotted quite a few quilts. Take care.

In the recent version of Sense and Sensibility (not the Emma Thompson version) there is a scene when the Dashwoods move to the cottage. The first night is spent under a lovely quilt. Imagine my horror when I stopped the film on an HDTV and saw the quilt was machine quilted.

In the recent tv show The Americans, which takes place in the early 1980's, there is an appropriate 1980's quilt in the second episode. Kudo's to the show's stylists who captured that sad time in quilt history - it's a perfect example of the home dec colors of the time.

I was watching the Mary Tyler Moore show, and her sheets were the same sheet I had found to use as the backing of my mom's quilt - LOL. When I was watching Rhoda, I saw several quilts.
I've read several comments about machine pieced quilts, remember sewing machines have been around since the late 1800's, treadles and hand cranks and their stitches are sometimes better than today's sewing machines.

I KNOW this quilt!! I bet I have watched this movie 10 times and drooled over this quilt!! You are right...there is a beauty on When Harry met Sally...in their big love scene when they are sitting on her bed! Amazing quilt!!

I totally look for quilts in movies. One of my early quilts was from an episode of Little House in the Prairie. I must post about that someday. Maybe we could do a blogland event where everyone posts if they've ever made a quilt from a movie or tv show :)!!

Glad to know I'm not the only one that does that! I saw "Little Women" on TCM not too long ago (the 1949 version with June Allison as Jo). Oh, the quilts that were on the beds in that one! And I've been on a Civil War fabrics kick so with the story set in that time, it was a fun quilt watch!

The Katherine Hepburn version comes on this week -- definitely will be comparing the use of quilts in it!

I love seeing quilts in movies and I've totally spotted that one in You've got Mail before. It's gorgeous.

I haven't cleaned out my tupperware cupboard in forever .Im at the point where I'm just throwing things in and slamming the door shut.

LOL - I thought I was the only one who noticed quilts in the backgrounds in the movies and on TV ;-) I am always on 'quilt lookout' ;-)

I'm always on the lookout for quilts. Little house on prairie of course. Spotted a few on the Gilmore Girls too. Drives my family mad :-) xx

I love quilts in movies and tv shows too. I love the one in "As Time Goes By" on Jean and Lionel's bed. You see it all the time!

I'm in love with the quilt in "As Time Goes By" also. There is a 9-patch beauty in the new "Lincoln" movie near the end.

Funny I should read your quilt sighting while watching one of my favorites--"Little Women", with Katharine Hepburn as Jo. Many many great quilt sitings in that one! Double wedding ring and ocean waves...

My favorite quilt in a movie is a gorgeous pineapple quilt, AKA the Baby Maker, in "The Proposal." After I saw the movie, I tracked down the source of the vintage beauty to see if there was a picture to recreate it, but was told the movie company owns all rights to it. It's fun to see it peeking out around Ryan Reynolds in the bedroom scenes.

Lately I've seen a few quilts on tv and in films, there was a nice one in Homeland and yesterday I saw one in Django Unchained, and yes I've done the same as you, paused the tv to check out the design.
