Stash Shame

Judy has got a neat thing on her blog right now - encouraging us to bust our stash and share our efforts in doing so.

You all know that I don't have a huge stash, but what I do have is two bins of scrappage. They're really big - almost two feet wide, and one and a half feet deep. They just offend my eyes every time I see them. Some of the pieces within could be sorted into my fabric closet - but it's a matter of sorting through the mess. Other fabrics are small pieces, like 20cms of yardage - things I may have purchased for applique. I have no idea how to store that stuff.

The rest of the scraps are just that ... scraps and trimmings. I am often really good, and cut the scraps up into my strip bins - but those bins are starting to get really full - almost to the point of not getting the lids on - and I just can't sew them up fast enough!

I just need to get power sewing - it's going to take me years to get through it all, but right now I'm just looking at the bins, and that's going to get nowhere! Thank you Judy for encouraging us - we can do this - together!

On another note - thank you so much for your kind wishes and supportive messages regarding Madaline. It really means so much to know that you all care. x o x

You can do it! Think how nice it will be to have the stash just the way you want it!

I solved my problem by giving them all away, lol. It felt wonderful, and now I can start again.

Read Bonnie Hunter's scrap suggestions on her website, http://quiltville.com/scrapusersystem.shtml. It works really well. There is so much good stuff on her website. Her weblog is fun too!

Maybe you could join the HeartStrings group and use up some of those scraps/strips. You could even just make the blocks and let someone else finish the quilt if you prefer. String quilts make GREAT stashbusters :)

scraps are the most challenging to get used up! I agree, power sewing works wonders on using up some of it..go Tazzie go!!!!

Your bins are more organized than mine are. I have most of my scraps shoved into a tote bag. Literally shoved. And squashed. And mashed. The bag is so densly packed I'm not sure the tote bag handles can manage the weight. But -- for the "useable" scrap pieces (things large enough to use for applique (not that I do any) and/or pieces smaller than a fat quarter)I do have those in a separate container arranged by color. Not that I ever think to go in there and USE them, but they are organized.
