I'm on the home stretch now with the Royal Cross quilt. I've completed the middle section of the quilt top. Now I need to select a fabric for the inner border. I'm thinking of a red coloured reproduction style fabric, what do you think? I haven't decided on the outer border fabric either, but I have an inkling I'll be using a navy blue reproduction.It almost did my head in putting all the blocks together, I'm not sure why, but toward the end I was really having to force myself to work on the quilt. Not something I've experienced a lot in the past?!?
I will probably start working on the borders this evening - it will be fun to rifle thru the stash :-) Today I've spent the day quilting on a log cabin quilt for a customer. I've just now finished, and have only one more top to do, and then I'm up to date (for now) :-) Well, I should get busy, I'll check in with you all soon ... TTYL x o x
I've gotten to that point on quilts. I know I'll love it again soon, but the portion of it I'm working on isn't thrilling me. Or it's causing me a headache. Or, well, I'm just tired of working on it. I usually try to just push through it -- but, well, sometimes it just needs to be set aside for a "quickie" project that can get me excited about the project I'm stuck on again.

I can understand how this would get hard to work on with all that curve piecing, but I think it was worth it, it is looking great. I like the colours you are thinking of for your borders.

ReplyDeleteWOW what a quilt? I presume this is your own design? Are you making a pattern for it available. I love the effect of the curves and the scrappy. The red and blue borders should really set it off.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt! I think we all hit a wall at some point in a project. Glad you soldiered through. A red inner border with a blue outer border wil make a beautiful frame.

ReplyDeleteTazzie, this is such a beautiful quilt! I really admire all the hard work and effort you have put in with all those curved seams. I get to that point of not wanting to complete many times. It works itself out eventually unless I go off to make another quilt! The inner red and outer blue border sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't often experienced that feeling of having to force yourself to work on something then count yourself lucky!I have to bribe myself sometimes to stick with a project, and that doesn't always work, hence all my ufo's. It's looking beautiful though, the border choices will just finish it off.

A country red or medium blue will work fine, but IMHO, I would first put a light cream, then the color. However, I also KNOW, whatever you do will be just gorgeous!

Probably too late now - but I think you need a goldish tan inner border and a great blue outer border.

Your quilt is stunning. I think the red and blue borders will be great. It is fortunate that you perservered and worked past your roadblock and finished the blocks. It is quite an achievement to master curved piecing like you did. Hooray for you!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is fantastic. All those curved pieces and not a mountain peak in sight! I know what you mean about finishing off a quilt with repeated blocks. I think it's boredom. Once you have seen where the pattern is going, the rest of the blocks are just repetition. Never mind, at least the scrappy colours can keep your interest going (one reason why I like scrappy quilts) and the borders will finish it off beautifully.
